My Pomegranate Mocktail is a fusion of stunning flavors, tangy, sweet, a tad bit salty and wait, what did I miss… Of course, with a little hit of spice at the backend. It is refreshing at the same time, a party inside your mouth!
Need more than a mocktail? Oh yes! You can turn this into a cocktail by replacing the sparkling water with champagne.
Benefits of Pomegranate
I love that one of my favorite fruits is also one of the healthiest foods on the planet. The tiny ruby like seeds of this fruit contain Punicalagins, a extremely potent antioxidant. They are found in the peel of pomegranate too.
Punicalagins is so powerful that pomegranate juice has been found to have three times the antioxidant activity of red wine and green tea (3Trusted Source). Pomegranate extract and powder are typically made from the peel, due to its high antioxidant and punicalagin content.
Another impressive benefit of punicalagins is reducing inflammation, one of the leading drivers of many serious diseases, including cancer and diabetes.

I have used Himalayan black salt (Indian Kala Namak) for this recipe. It is not black in color, as the name implies, but a light pink. You can find this at an Indian grocery store or from Amazon.com
Another organic option is from Pure Indian Foods.
Trace amounts of sulfur compounds give this salt a rich umami flavor, and imparts a unique flavor to this recipe. If you must, you can substitute it with Himalayan pink salt. You won’t get that flavor profile, nevertheless it would taste good.
How to make the pomegranate mocktail step by step
Gather all the ingredients needed. I made freshly squeezed pomegranate juice, but you can get 100 percent pure, organic, pomegranate juice at Amazon.com
Crush cumin seeds, jalapenos and the basil leaves in a mortar and pestle, or whichever way you find convenient.
Mix the paste with the pomegranate juice and proceed to add lime juice, chaat masala, coconut sugar and Himalayan black salt.
Fill two glasses half way with ice and then add the concentrate half way up the glasses.
Fill the rest of the way with sparkling water. Give a gentle stir and garnish with basil leaves, lime wedges and pomegranate seeds. The glasses that I have used hold about 8 fluid ounces/200 ml.
pomegranate cocktail
Looking for an easy, healthy mocktail that tastes delicious, all the while dialing up your health, even before all that new year resolutions?
Ingredients
- 7 oz. pomegranate juice
- 2 tbsp. lime juice
- 1/2 tsp. cumin seeds
- 1 inch jalapeno (seeds removed) (This ingredient is entirely optional, if you don't like the spice element, you can skip it )
- 1/2 tsp. chaat masala
- 1/4 tsp. Himalayan black salt
- 4 basil leaves
Instructions
- Crush the cumin seeds, jalapeno, basil leaves with a mortar and pestle (you can crush them into a coarse paste using whichever method you like)
- Add lime juice, the above paste, chaat masala and Himalayan black salt to the pomegranate juice. This is the concentrate.
- Fill a 8 oz. glass halfway with ice and pour the pomegranate concentrate just above the ice line.
- Fill the rest of the glass with sparkling water. (You can also add champagne instead of sparkling water to make it a cocktail)
- Give a gentle stir, garnish with lime wedges, basil leaves and pomegranate seeds.
- Enjoy immediately, else the mocktail will become watery.
Notes
You can also use mint leaves instead of basil leaves.
You can make the concentrate and save it, but prepare the mocktail just before serving, else it will turn watery.
Give a gentle stir at the end so that the flavors don't settle to the bottom of the glass.
Enjoy the pomegrante mocktail immediately, else the ice will melt and the flavor would get watered down.
