This 4 ingredient healthy banana ice cream is refined sugar free, dairy free, very healthy and tastes absolutely delicious.
This banana ice cream recipe is made with my daughter’s favorite smoothie combo – bananas and peanut butter. She loves this combination so much that I make peanut butter-banana sandwiches more than PBJ sandwiches.
Healthy Options
It was one of those days when we were back from a trip. We tend to toss all our rules about healthy eating out the window while we are on a trip. All of us, including my toddler, love trying out new food and restaurants, especially on a trip. At home though, we try to eat as healthy as possible.
This strategy has worked well for me, so well that now she ends up asking before every dessert if it has sugar or fruit sugar, or “mommy is that healthy?” I keep joking to my husband that my toddler is more health conscious than him and it is much easier to feed her healthy homemade meals.
She requested an ice cream after we got home. I started thinking about options and it quickly dawned on me that she would love this combo! I love to incorporate some element of spice into the foods that I make and cinnamon seemed like a perfect addition.
Key Ingredients
Do you know that cinnamon is made from the inner bark of cinnamon trees? These are then dried and rolled up and used as such or powdered. The compound cinnamaldehyde, which is what makes cinnamon so healing, has powerful effects on health and metabolism. It is the compound that gives cinnamon its distinct smell and flavor. The health benefits of cinnamon are numerous. Cinnamon is a powerful source of antioxidants, has anti-inflammatory properties and helps fight bacterial and fungal infection.
I used Lily’s brand of Stevia-sweetened, dark chocolate chips. Lily’s products are refined sugar free, and are fair trade certified.
Healthy banana ice cream is very simple to make. After all this recipe just requires throwing everything into the blender and pulsing it well to get a smooth creamy texture. Initially the mixture may be crumbly but scrape the bits of bananas down from the sides of the blender and pulse again. You will notice that this gradually turns into that desired smooth creamy texture.
Needless to say, my daughter loved it! It gave me so much happiness to see her licking the bowl clean, all that healthy goodness without any guilt.

Notes
I used Lily's stevia sweetened dark chocolate baking chips for this recipe. If you desire more sweetness, add 1 tablespoon of maple syrup while blending in the bananas.
